My original goal when I went to CrossFit 915 was to gain endurance. My doctor told me that my resting heart rate and blood pressure were too high for someone my age, so I knew I had to do something different. Back then, I would go to a typical fitness gym, do the same old exercises, stand by the same old crowded machines, and get the same old results. Since joining CrossFit 915, though, I’ve had safe and professional coaching and I’ve gotten to an athletic level that I hadn’t thought possible.
Not only have I drastically improved my resting heart rate (now 55 bpm) and my blood pressure (now 113/70), but I have also gained 15 pounds of lean mass.
I went from 140 to 155lbs while at the same time decreasing my body fat from 9% to 5%. I have gained size and built strength in a way that I never could have with a typical gym routine.
CrossFit has this hype around it that it’s only for young and fit individuals, but CrossFit is functional fitness that is for everyone. I have learned more about myself and what I’m capable of through the coaches and experiences I’ve had at CrossFit 915.
I think a moment that I will always remember above all others is how supportive the gym and its members can be. Last year was my first competition, and needless to say I didn’t do as well as I wanted to. I felt like I had let my team down. However, my teammates felt differently. Instead they picked me up and congratulated me. They didn’t see my disappointment only my accomplishments and how far I have come.
