I was looking for something different, when I found CrossFit 915. Up until that point, I had failed numerous times at the “regular” gyms. I would get bored and didn’t know what to do when I was there. I had seen an ad one day and convinced my boyfriend Matt and his sister Nicole to take the intro class with me. We signed up the same day.
I remember walking into this small box back in 2011 and not knowing what to expect. Honestly, I was pretty nervous. Marc was our coach for the intro session and I thought “you want me to do what?” I knew nothing about Crossfit or about fitness- I just wanted to be “skinny” and I knew I didn’t want to get “buff”. CF915 has completely changed my perspective on skinny and fit. I realize everyone has a different body type and being skinny doesn’t necessarily mean being fit. Now I just want to be fit. It has been great to see the gym grow in both size and membership.
One of my many favorite things about CF915 would have to be the coaches. We have amazing coaches. Not only are they knowledgeable but they are encouraging and they are passionate about pushing everyone. I think it is important to have a good coaching staff especially in something such as Crossfit, the 915 coaching staff exceeds good.
It is always crazy to me when I am able to lift heavier. It’s always an AH-HA moment when I can lift a weight I wasn’t able to the week or two before. Along with improved WOD results I have lost weight and inches which I am thrilled about; hard work and clean eating really do go hand in hand. I always thought losing weight was going to be my favorite result but it’s not. The way I feel, about myself and in general, is one of the best feelings ever. I am not at my “goal” yet but much thanks to CF915 every day I am a little bit closer!
I’ve had a lot of great CF915 memories both inside at outside of the gym. I am going to say though that the Whole 60 Paleo Challenge is definitely one of my best stories. The challenge had been announced and I was pretty sure I was not going to do it. I ended up changing my mind, but I told myself I would only do the challenge if I was going to win. I had gone in with a different mentality; I was hungry to lose (weight, inches and body fat) in order to win. The support from the gym was incredible, the coaches are rooting for you and they always let you know it. Giving 1,000% percent to that challenge was one of the best decisions I’ve made. After the challenge ended we were all anxious to see who won (in my opinion we all won). The feeling that I got when I saw my name as one of the winners was priceless. I had made a decision to go all in and I succeed. For the first time in a while I felt good about myself and about my body. It wouldn’t have been as easy without the 915 staff both in their encouragement to be strict with the challenge and their encouragement during WODs.
